I had a great hospital experience, several actually, and it has reminded me of how far we’ve come in healthcare and how much people and caregivers really do care. They put the care in healthcare. Their roles should never be downplayed in how much they contribute to our progress. Sometimes it’s the touch of a hand or a warm smile that gives us the courage to press forward.
You would think pressing forward would be easy when the going is rough, but the truth is pressing forward, continuing to do the hard work and making lifestyle changes can be rather intimidating or downright frightening. But with the right team, the right support, you can do anything.
As a two-time cancer survivor, I know of which I speak. It’s not easy. It sucks, it drains you and hurts everyone impacted by your life. Those who love you will cry, laugh, break and rejoice with you all along the way. Rejoice? Yeah, I said that, because here’s the thing…one success is everyone’s success. Your set backs and leap forwards belong to everyone who belongs to you.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and before anyone gets upset over the other cancers and diseases not represented here, let me clarify something. Cancer is a horrible disease, and wherever we can get the money invested is where the research goes, but just like your support system, one victory is a victory for everyone involved. We’re the closest to finding a cure for cancer than we’ve ever been, and if it can be found in the breast cancer arena, then let it happen there so we can all benefit. A cure for one cancer will immediately become a cure for all cancers.
I’m not so naïve to believe it will happen overnight or magically, but I do believe it will happen. And it will happen even faster if we all contribute. My 2018 BOOBmarks are available! $1 each, all the money will go directly to cancer research. If you missed the 2017 BOOBmarks, I still have a few left and will be happy to send those out as well. So, enjoy a bookmark and help a cause!
