The life of a writer is a strange thing. Fragile even. Eight years ago, I began this journey, but was so pushed down with disbelief and no support that I collapsed in on myself. At certain points since then, I pulled myself up with the help and encouragement of others. By men mostly. Oddly enough. Men pushed me down, and men pulled me up. Not that I was unable on my own, but that I didn't have the internal fortitude that was necessary to propel me to something greater without someone to share it with. Then, four months ago, the man that meant the most to me--my father--passed away unexpectedly. He was the greatest man of my life. And instead of needing his presence and his encouragement; his absence threw me into a place where the words wouldn't stop flowing. All of that grief, anger, helplessness, and despair had to go somewhere; and by the Grace of God, it did. I channeled it into the books that you will read from now on. Not every writer is propelled so violently by the life circumstances around them, but every writer is motivated by something within that keeps them up all hours of the night, or forces them inexplicably to sleep for ten hours straight only to wake up at one-thirty AM to place the thoughts swirling around in their minds on the page before it drives them mad. I don't claim to understand it, but I do love it. God has given us all talents. Talents that we sometimes have to go through the fire to find. The dust has to be knocked off, and the rust has to be charred away, and sometimes, just sometimes, we have to experience a void that must be filled in order for us to fill it. This is my filling. I've known it for a long time, and believe I have only scratched the surface. I do believe that this wonderful, fragile, strange gift of mine is from God, and that sharing it with the universe is what He means me to do. So I encourage you to do the same. Pick up a pen, or a brush, a computer, or a mixing bowl, a coupon book, or your family--and let God work through you and give you the life of a writer, no matter what it is that you are doing.
